Update: August 29, 2022 (3:53 AM ET): Well, it looks like Samsung is actually pushing this update out right now. Sammy Fans reports that the update is hitting Korea right now and has firmware versions S901NKSU2AVHB, S906NKSU2AVHB, and S906NKSU2AVHB. There’s no word on a wider release just yet, but we’re guessing the update will quickly arrive in other markets.
Original article: August 29, 2022 (2:47 AM ET): Samsung’s Galaxy S22 series has enjoyed a steady stream of updates in 2022, addressing everything from game throttling to camera-related tweaks. Now, it looks like the next update will be heavily focused on the camera too.
Samsung noted on its Korean language forum (h/t: SamMobile) that the Galaxy S22 series will receive a camera-focused update this month. More specifically, the highlights include the 3x telephoto camera now supporting the hyperlapse mode and improved QR code scanning speeds.
What else does the update bring?
The pending update will also bring “optimized memory and AI engine” in photo/night/video modes, improved HDR and colors for photos, improved color and brightness for the night mode, and improved video quality and stabilization.
The Korean manufacturer also confirmed that it will bring an astro hyperlapse feature to the phones as part of a future update, although there’s no ETA on when we should expect this option. Presumably, this is like the Pixel line’s astro timelapse feature, allowing you to take a timelapse video of the starry night sky.
There’s no word on a timeline for this update to roll out to devices. Either way, we’re glad to see the Galaxy S22 series continuing to get camera-related improvements. This comes a few months after a June update arrived for the phones, improving sharpness and contrast, tweaking the auto white balance feature, better portrait mode results, and more.
