TL;DR
- Samsung has opened up the One UI 5 beta program to Galaxy Z Fold 2 owners.
- The beta includes all of the improvements found in Android 13 and the changes Samsung made for its devices.
- This beta is the precursor to the Galaxy Z Fold 2’s final major OS update.
Yesterday, Samsung expanded its Android 13-based One UI 5 beta update to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. Now it’s opening up its beta program to owners of the Galaxy Z Fold 2.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 launched with Android 10 and was guaranteed three major OS updates. That means that Android 13 will be the final major OS update owners of the Fold 2 can expect to receive. While the stable version of One UI 5 still isn’t ready for its debut — even for Galaxy S22 devices — the beta version is now available to download in South Korea. The update should come to other regions shortly after.
If you want to give the beta a try, all you have to do is head over to the Samsung Members app. There you’ll have the opportunity to enroll in Samsung’s beta program. Just open the app and click on the beta announcement banner. The banner will take you to a registration page where you’ll enter your information. Once that’s done, you should receive a notification about an update.
As with any beta, you may run into bugs if you decide to install it. Before updating to the One UI 5 beta, be sure to back up your data just in case.
Although Android 13 will be the last major OS the Galaxy Z Fold 2 gets, it won’t be the final update. The device is still scheduled to get more security patches which are expected to come to an end in late 2024.
