We got lots to talk about with this week’s new TV shows. We have a live-action series based on a highly popular video game franchise. We have two adult-themed sci-fi animation shows. There’s a spin-off of a long-running soap opera, and a globe-trotting adventure show. Finally, there’s a new documentary about one of the most famous criminals of all time. Let’s look at the best new TV shows to stream this week.
Best new streaming TV shows this week
Resident Evil Season One (Netflix)
It started out as a survival horror video game in the 1990s, but Resident Evil has since expanded to eight main games, along with several spin-offs and remakes. There’s been novels, comic books, action figures, and many CGI animated movies and shows, based on the game series, not to mention seven (yes, seven) live-action feature films. This week, Netflix debuts the first ever Resident Evil live-action TV show.
The show takes place in two different time lines. In the year 2022, Albert Wesker (Lance Reddick) has developed a new drug for the Umbrella Corporation that has some seriously bad side effects. In the year 2036, the world has been infected with the T-Virus, and Wesker’s adult daughter Jade (Ella Balinska) is trying to find a cure for the zombie outbreak. So how do these two timelines interact, and how will they bring in plot elements from the Resident Evil games? Watch and find out.
Netflix
Netflix is still the leading premium streaming service, with over 200 million worldwide subscribers. It offers thousands of movies and TV shows to binge watch, including its always growing list of original films and series, including Stranger Things, The Witcher, Bridgerton, and many more.
Farzar Season One (Netflix)
Netflix is also debuting this adult animated sci-fi comedy series this week. The premise is that a human warrior named Renzo (voiced, ironically, by Resident Evil’s Lance Reddick) freed the planet Farzar from hostile aliens, and put a dome over a human settlement to become its leader. Flash foward to many years later, and the alien threat has returned to Farzar. Now, Renzo’s son Prince Fichael has to lead a team to combat these aliens. However, there may be more to Farzar, and to his father, than his son realizes.
Solar Opposites Season Three (Hulu)
Hulu launches the third season of this sci-fi adult animated series this week. It comes from creators Justin Roiland (Rick and Morty) and Mike McMahan (Star Trek: Lower Decks) and follows a group of aliens who crash land on Earth, specifically in the heartland of America. The story also follows a group of humans who have been reduced down to miniature size by one of these aliens, and are now trapped in a terrarium.
Hulu
Hulu offers not only thousands of movies and TV shows to stream, it also has original shows and films like The Handmaid’s Tale. You can upgrade to Hulu Plus Live TV to get live channels, including your local stations.
Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem Season Two (Peacock)
Days of our Lives on NBC is one of the longest-running daytime soap operas in the US. In 2021, the series launched a five-episode spin-off on Peacock, Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem, and it was a big enough success that the streaming service is launching a five-episode second season. The show brings back older characters from the soap opera, along with current and new cast members, with a storyline that takes place, as the title suggests, outside of the soap opera’s normal setting of Salem.

NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming service offers a lot of great movies and TV shows to stream on demand, along with live news and sports. Best of all, you can watch lots of its content for free, or watch all of it with a paid subscription starting at just $4.99 a month.
Blood and Treasure Season Two (Paramount Plus)
The first season of this adventure series debuted on CBS way back in 2019. Now the long delayed second (and likely final) season is debuting this week as a Paramount Plus exclusive. The second season brings back rare antiquities expert Danny McNamara and skilled art thief Lexi Vaziri. After an attack on the Vatican by terrorists, the pair have to team up once again. They will go around the world to collect the Spirit Banner of Genghis Khan. So why do they have to find it, and what’s the connection to the Vatican attack? Watch and find out.
Paramount Plus
Paramount Plus includes thousands of movies and TV shows from CBS, Showtime, and Paramount Pictures. It also includes new and original movies like The Good Fight, Infinite, and more.
D.B. Cooper: Where Are You? Season One (Netflix)
In November 1971, a man who called himself “Dan Cooper” highjacked a plane in mid-flight going from Portland, Oregon to Seattle, Washington. He asked for $200,000 and four parachutes, or he would blow up the plane. The flight eventually landed in Seattle. The passengers disembarked, the plane was refueled, and “Cooper” got what he asked for. The plane then took off again with “Cooper” and the remaining crew. “Cooper” then opened up a rear door and jumped out of the plane, never to be seen again.
Over 50 years later, the man that was later called “D.B. Cooper” has still not been identified and has not been caught. This new Netflix mini-series attempts to find this mysterious highjacker that later turned into a kind of folk hero, with new leads and information from both law enforcement and amateur detectives.

This was one of the most popular shows in the UK in 2022, and now it’s available in the US via Peacock. It’s a fast-paced thriller about a London police bomb squad that has to go after a terrorist that’s trying to set off explosions through the city. You can watch all six episodes immediately, and if you like the show, you will be glad to know it’s coming back for a second season.
Maggie Season One (Hulu)
Hulu has launched this quirky comedy. The title character, Maggie (Rebecca Rittenhouse) is a real psychic. She can touch a person and see a vision of their near future. However, when she touches a certain man, she suddenly finds that she’s in his vision, with the two of them getting married. Problem is, he’s currently in love with someone else. Now Maggie has to deal with this awkward situation. Does she allow fate to make this vision come true, or does something happen to disrupt her psychic prediction?
Black Bird Season One (Apple TV Plus)
Here’s another dark crime drama available on Apple TV Plus. Taron Egerton plays a convict who is asked by FBI officials to transfer to a maximum-security prison. In exchange for a shorter sentence, they want him to make friends with a serial killer in the prison, played by Paul Walter Hauser. Egerton’s goal is to get a confession from Hauser about a specific murder the FBI believes he’s guilty of. The show also stars Greg Kinnear and the late Ray Liotta, in one of his last roles.
Apple TV Plus
Apple TV Plus has quickly become a major player in the streaming game since its launch in 2019. Its slate of original programming includes shows like Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, Foundation, and For All Mankind as well as movies like The Banker, Greyhound, and Palmer.
Boo, Bitch Season One (Netflix)
Lana Condor, the star of Netflix’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy of teen romance films, returns to the streamer with this new supernatural comedy series. Condor plays a senior in high school who gets barely noticed by her fellow students. She decides to go to a party in order to finally get some attention from other school members. However, when she awakens the next morning after a very bad hangover, she finds out that she’s now a ghost. Whoops.
America The Beautiful Season One (Disney Plus)
Disney Plus has launched this new National Geographic documentary series. Narrated by Michael B. Jordan, it looks at the varied lands and animals that populate the United States of America. It has some amazing video footage showing creatures in the swamps of the Southeast US, animals that roam the American Southwest, and much more.

Moonhaven Season One (AMC Plus)
AMC Plus is the exclusive streaming home for this new sci-fi drama. Set 100 years in the future, it takes place mostly on Earth’s moon. Specifically, it centers on a base called Moonhaven, with its inhabitants trying to improve life for humans with techniques that could be used to improve Earth as well. However, when an Earth-based space pilot arrives on the moon, she gets caught up in a murder mystery that may show that Moonhaven isn’t all it first seems to be.
